How does it work?

SHR works by gradually heating the skin to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents regrowth. The temperature is low but there is a high repetition of short pulses that give an effective heat build up.

Who can be treated with SHR?

SHR is suitable for all skin types. This is because the skin is gradually heated, as opposed to exposing the hair follicle to a single high energy pulse, which can cause trauma to darker skin types. It is even safe on tanned skins (1 week post-tanning), making it a suitable treatment at any time of year. Most hair colours are treatable, although white hairs do not respond well.

How many treatments will I need?

6-8 treatments are usually needed depending on the density of your hair, your hair colour and skin colour. Hair growth is in 4 stages and SHR only affects the Anagen stage (actively growing hair). So with each treatment 15-20 % of hair is removed permanently. Once a hair follicle is damaged it cannot grow hair. However, hair follicles that were not in the active growth phase will need to be treated again. It’s not unusual for patients to have a touch-up two years after the initial treatment due to hormonal changes.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Shave the area to be treated the day before or just prior to treatment. There is no ‘downtime’ and no recovery time is needed. You can have a treatment and return to normal activities immediately. Prices range from £60 to £250 depending on the size of the area treated.

For as long as I can remember I have struggled with having to deal with excess dark hair, having to either wax, shave or bleach on a regular basis. I first came across permanent hair reduction in a magazine article and was so impressed with the reported results, I immediately looked into finding a professional I could trust. After my initial consultation, I felt completely confident that the treatment would be safe and very effective. Permanent hair reduction has given me so much confidence. I have had several areas treated, some more painful than others, but definitely worth it for the fantastic results.
