How does Microneedling / Dermaroller work?

A sterile medical roller covered in tiny micro needles that, when rolled over the skin, makes tiny holes in the skin. The body then heals itself by stimulating new collagen and elastin. It can take 6-8 weeks to see results but the results continue to improve over the next few months giving a gradual improvement in the skin’s quality and appearance.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after treatment you will look as though you have mild sunburn, and your skin will feel warm. This settles quickly over the next 24 hours and can be covered with mineral makeup. Obagi Hydrate or SW Vitamin C Serum will help with the healing process.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Microneedling can be used for the face and body but usually the face, neck and chest are the areas treated. If you want to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars and enlarged pores, 3-6 treatments are recommended 4-6 weeks apart. You cannot be treated if you have taken Roaccutane in the last 6 months, have an infection in the area to be treated, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin 30 minutes prior to your treatment, which makes the process more comfortable. Wearing an SPF of 30-50 is recommended during your treatment course.

I was recommended to try a course of microneedling when I went to see about the crepey skin I had started to see on my chest. I have to admit I was slightly sceptical that tiny needles could bring about the changes I was promised, but they did. My chest may not be the skin of an 18 year old but it looks much better than it did and I'm so pleased I was advised to have the treatment.
