There are a number of treatment choices for line and winkle reduction – Botulinum Toxin-A is a cosmetic injectable treatment for lines and wrinkles on the face that occur when the muscles move from everyday expressions such as concentrating, frowning and laughing.

When we are younger these movements smooth away as the muscle relaxes, but as we get older the skin loses its elasticity and gradually lines form permanently. Wrinkle reduction is a simple process that blocks the nerve signals to the muscles, making the wrinkles relax and soften, leading to a temporary stop to the wrinkling process. The result is firm, natural-looking skin that appears younger within a few days.

In much the same way, Botulinum Toxin-A can also be used to treat excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis, by interrupting the nerve signals sent to the sweat glands. Without receiving these signals, the glands do not produce sweat, effectively keeping the area dry. The underarms can be treated in a quick, simple treatment, reducing your sweating by 70% and lasts for 5-9 months.

What is Botulinum Toxin-A?

Wrinkle Reduction treatments use Botulinum Toxin-A, a naturally occurring protein and a prescription-only medicine that must be administered by a medical practitioner. There are many brands of Botulinum Toxin-A, the most familiar being Botox.

As a highly respected and established clinic in the delivery of wrinkle reduction treatments in Marlow, we offer the brands we believe are the safest, and produce the best results, namely Bocouture™ and Azzalure™ from Merz.

The choice of Botulinum Toxin-A will depend on your age, previous treatment use and what is recommended by your nurse practitioner to best suit you. Our nurses are fully trained and extensively experienced in administering Botulinum Toxin-A.

What are the benefits of wrinkle reduction treatments?

Line and wrinkle reduction treatments will generally reduce wrinkles and fine lines in the following areas: Moderate to severe forehead lines, Crows feet, Frown lines, Lips, Chin, Neck, and general wrinkles.

However, due to its muscle relaxing nature, it can also used for many medical conditions such as chronic migraine, overactive bladders, muscle twitching, spasms and excessive underarm sweating. At Springwell Clinic, our wrinkle reduction treatments are for the purpose of facial aesthetics results rather than treating medical ailments.

Can Botulinum Toxin-A be used for excessive sweating?

Yes! We can treat underarm excessive sweating using Botulinum Toxin-A injections. The procedure is simple and quick and you can expect a 70% reduction in sweating.

Am I suitable for wrinkle reduction treatment?

If you have lines and wrinkles that remain when your face is relaxed then you could benefit from this treatment. A more youthful appearance gives confidence and self-esteem so can be hugely beneficial, both in our personal lives and careers.

You cannot have Botulinum Toxin-A treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have any allergies to it, are taking certain antibiotics, or if you suffer from severe neuromuscular disorders.

What can I expect from the treatment?

You would have an initial consultation and be seen by a nurse prescriber before your first treatment. A numbing cream will be applied if required on arrival at your treatment. Most people experience little to no discomfort, but some may feel a slight pinching or stinging sensation.

You may experience some redness, discomfort, swelling and bruising on the injection site, which should subside after 24-48 hours, but you can otherwise carry out with your normal daily activities directly following treatment.

Botulinum Toxin-A is very safe when performed correctly by a qualified practitioner, and has been used safely for over 25 years to treat facial lines and wrinkles. There are no reported long-term side effects from it although it is not uncommon for a little temporary bruising to occur. To avoid bruising, we recommend minimising the use of alcohol, blood thinners or anti-inflammatory medications for 3 days prior to your appointment.

You can expect to see intial results within 48 hours, with full results appearing in 1 – 2 weeks. A follow up appointment is offered free of charge at 2 weeks to ensure you get the best results. Treatments need to be repeated every 3-4 months.

What is the 'Frozen' look?

The “frozen look” refers to an unnatural, overly smooth appearance caused by excessive use of wrinkle-reduction treatments. It occurs when too much product is injected in a treatment or when muscles responsible for facial expressions are overly relaxed, resulting in a lack of movement and expression in treated areas. It is important to always choose a skilled and qualified practitioner who will achieve natural-looking results by carefully balancing muscle relaxation with maintaining expressive facial movements.
